Storage
Storage must be done in accordance with the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL). The PIL is a summary of product characteristics document found in dispensed UK-licenced medication, and in accordance with any instruction on the label.

Other guidelines include:

  • Storage of medication must be in secure clean locked cabinet / drawers & room with only authorised staff.
  • The area should be cool, dry and away from direct sunlight 16c u2013 25c away from a source of heat.
  • Fridge drugs must be in a locked container ideally between 2c u2013 8c.

Medication must be stored in original containers from the pharmacy that dispensed them.

  • The medication cabinet should be clean and orderly with adequate space.
  • It storage should be adequately lit.
  • The individual assumes full responsibility for the storage and self administration of medicines.
  • Medication & keys should never be left unattended.
