The Triangle of Fire

A fire requires 3 things to start:

  • A source of ignition (heat),
  • A source of fuel (something that burns)
  • Oxygen:
  •  

If anyone of these is missing, a fire cannot start.

Sources of Ignition

These include anything that can get very hot or cause sparks can act as a source of ignition.

  • Heaters,
  • Lighting,
  • Naked flames,
  • Electrical equipment,
  • Smokers’ materials (cigarettes, matches etc),

Sources of fuel

Sources of fuel include

  • Wood, Paper,
  • Plastic, Rubber or
  • Foam, Loose Packaging materials,
  • Waste rubbish Furniture

Sources of oxygen include the air around us.
