Physical Abuse

A restrictive practice: Refers to actions that may need to be used such as physical restraint or use of devices, medication or seclusion. These must always be legally and ethically justified.

Physical Abuse

This is an individual’s body being injured or hurt due. It can also be the wrong use of restrictive practice. For example, misuse of medication or using inappropriate  restraint such as locking some one in a room or tying them to a chair

Examples of Physical Abuse

These include: locking some one in a room, kicking, slapping, hitting, pushing, biting, punching, pinching, pulling hair, beating, throwing objects, pinning one down, chocking.

Signs & Indicators of Physical Abuse

Injuries that are unexplained or haven’t been treated. There could be a number of injuries of different ages and in different places.

Examples include: Bruises, Broken bones, Bite, Burn or scald marks, Unexplained loss of clumps of hair.
