Contaminated, it means food has become dirty, infected, unclean or polluted.
People may become ill or cause harm if the food eaten is contaminated. Food hazards could be:
Physical – these are objects such s bits of bones or packaging. This may be introduced when preparing food
Chemical – These may include cleaning products or pesticides.
Allergenic – such as those that cause reactions to an individual. Itchy skin rash, breathing problems or stomach cramps with vomiting or diarrhoea.
Bacterial – Micro-organisms in food example raw foods need to be cooked to remove pathogens.
