Our CPD Accredited catheterisation course is designed to provide the attendee the necessary skills and knowledge required to confidently perform female and male catheterisation competently in the healthcare setting. The course is aimed at nurses and doctors wishing to refresh their skills in the procedure. Risks associated with catheterisation include healthcare associated urinary tract infections, bladder stones, allergies among others and the course is aimed at increasing competence in the insertion, management and care of catheters.
General Information:
For you to be able to carry out this extended role as part of your workload you need to be trained, supervised ,assessed and signed off as competent by another competent healthcare professional.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Understand the indication of urinary catheterisation
- Be able to confidently and competently insert a urinary catheter as per NICE guidelines.
- Be able to acquire the right knowledge in the selection of the right size of catheter in individual patient.
- Be able to understand the risk associated with catheterisation and how to minimise it.
- The standard of care required to minimise the risk of catheter acquired infections will also be discussed.
